My name is Denise, I’m a Software Engineer by day but at night I turn into a baker. I love trying new recipes and techniques and learning more about pastry, pickling and jamming. I’d say I’ve been baking for over 20 years, starting off in primary school with simple things like pikelets, rock cakes, biscuits, and of course packet mix cakes and muffins (White Wings in particular).
I think what I like most about baking is being able to create something delicious out of base ingredients like flour and butter, which is also why I enjoy my day job of being a Software Engineer – I get to build software that people can use, out of the thoughts in my head. If I can think it, I can build it.
The reason behind the name of this blog is fairly straightforward – if I ever had my own bakery (which I think I would like to one day) then I think I would call it Red Sugar Patisserie.
